EUREKA Eurostars is a European programme for SMEs that supports and funds international collaborative research and development projects.
Innovate UK has produced guidelines on the criteria for UK businesses.
Eurostars is a programme that supports research-performing small and medium enterprises, which develop innovative products, processes and services, to gain competitive advantage. Eurostars does this by providing funding for transnational innovation projects; the products of which are then rapidly commercialised.
Eurostars is a transnational programme, where projects have partners from two or more Eurostars countries. Thanks to this international collaboration, SMEs can more easily gain access to new markets.
The Eurostars programme is publicly financed with a total budget of 1.14 billion euro and is currently supported by 34 EUREKA countries and the European Union.
Eurostars provides funding and support to research-performing companies, especially SMEs. In a Eurostars project, the R&D-performing SME takes a leading position in a transnational consortium.
All project applications must pass through a highly competitive selection process, and the scrutiny of a panel of international research and business experts, to ensure that only the best business ideas and strong consortia get the funding they need. It has already been shown that Eurostars helps businesses grow their teams, find new expertise - and attract private investors. Participation in a Eurostars project can become a passport to growth, further innovation, an opening to new global markets and even greater business success.
Two-cut-off dates per year
The next deadline for submitting an application is 5 March 2015. As a "bottom-up" programme with no pre-defined topics, applications are evaluated at two cut-off dates per year.
In the UK, only research-performing SME's are eligible for funding under Eurostars.
Innovate UK will fund up to 60% of eligible costs to a maximum grant level of 360,000 Euros [on eligible project partner costs of 600,000 Euros] per UK partner in a Eurostars project. All costs must be incurred in the UK and all work must be carried out in the UK.
SMEs must have been registered as a UK company for 12 months, have PAYE staff and been trading for 12 months prior to application.
