Future South aims to capitalise on the world class research strengths of the Universities of the Solent region to promote further development of the green economy, and with it, economic growth and jobs.
The Solent is an area of strong UK economic growth. There is a growing "green economy" with many strengths emerging in research & development, environmental technologies, energy, waste and construction.
Future Solent has been established as a partnership by the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership (Solent LEP) together with the Partnership for Urban South Hampshire (PUSH) and the Hampshire Chamber of Commerce in the Solent area to achieve a low carbon, green economy.
Future South brings together a variety of projects and actions, developing new projects and supporting existing ones too.
- £3 million has been won from the Regional Growth Fund to support SMEs in the Solent Region wishing to develop new low carbon products and services by utilising the world class research facilities
- A new Hampshire Community Bank started trading in 2015 to add sustainable support for the Green Solent Economy
- Loans up to £100,000 at rates starting from 3.5% have been made available to SMEs based in the Solent and Isle of Wight region. The £950,000 fund is open to borrowers who can match-fund the loan, demonstrate that their project will create jobs, and who are either operating in the green economy or are funding a project in the "green economy"
