Projects and programmes

  • A proportion of the Island has been provisionally designated as an Assisted Area
  • SOREC,  an ERDF funded project, to establish an employers' organisation for the offshore renewable energy companies in the SE of England. Activities include a grant scheme for SMEs, Innovation and tech transfer, supply chain development and events
  • SOEC the development of a testing facility for tidal energy devices to the south of the Island. Supported by an INTERREG grant, the council and a private investor
  • Pre-apprentice scheme support for unemployed young people to join a company prior to becoming an apprentice
  • Apprentice scheme support for companies recruiting an Apprentice
  • IOW Expansion Fund grant scheme for companies on the Isle of Wight
  • Islework project which supports young people stating up their own business 
  • Your Future annual careers fair aimed at 14-24 year olds
  • Leader Rural grant scheme
  • IOW Lottery local lottery whose profits support SMEs with low interest loans and mentoring
  • Visit Wight Tourism DMO (Destination Management Organisation) marketing organisation for tourism
  • Partnership of the IOW Council and private sector companies

Sites and Inward investment

  • The IOW Council works closely with developers and owners in bringing employment and commercial sites to market and attracting companies
  • The IOW Council provides a comprehensive service for potential inward investors. It is also a substantial contributor to the service provided by the LEP for inward investment

Solent schemes and projects

  • The IOW Council is an active partner in the Solent LEP and PUSH
  • The IOW Council promotes all the Solent schemes on the Isle of Wight such as Bridging the Gap
  • The IOW Council is a partner in the BEEMS project for developing skills within the offshore renewable energy industry
